Why before the season?
- No waiting: service requests multiply at the start of summer; it is much easier to get an appointment in spring.
- Faults show up beforehand, not at the start of the season: in a unit that has not run all winter, low refrigerant, a capacitor or a drain problem shows up on the first hot day.
- Lower bill: a clean coil and correct refrigerant pressure give the same cooling with less electricity.
- Hygiene: mold and odor can develop in an indoor unit that stays damp all winter: air conditioner smells bad.
What you can do at home
- Cut the power, open the front cover and remove the filters, wash them with lukewarm water and dry them in the shade.
- Remove leaves, bags and the winter cover from around the outdoor unit.
- Check the remote control battery.
- Run the air conditioner in cooling mode for 15-20 minutes and observe the supply air, the noise, and whether water comes out of the drain.
