Air conditioner cleaning you can do at home
01Cut the power
Switch the air conditioner off with the remote and, if possible, switch off its fuse.
02Remove the filters
Lift the indoor unit's front cover and gently pull out the filters.
03Wash and dry
Wash the filters with lukewarm water and let them dry completely in the shade. A stiff brush and hot water damage the filter.
04Put them back and check the outdoor unit
Put the filters back in place. If there are leaves, bags or objects in front of the outdoor unit, clear them; do not cover the unit.
Spraying water or spray inside the indoor unit, removing covers and touching electrical connections can damage the electronic board. These jobs are for service.
Air conditioner maintenance done in service
| Task | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Indoor unit coil and fan cleaning | Prevents odor, bacteria and loss of airflow |
| Clearing the drain pan and line | The most common cause of water leaks is a clogged drain |
| Outdoor unit coil cleaning | A dirty coil means high pressure and extra electricity use |
| Refrigerant pressure and temperature measurement | Shows low refrigerant and leaks early |
| Electrical connections and current measurement | Shows compressor and fan health |
| Discharge temperature test | Confirms performance after maintenance |
Let's plan your air conditioner maintenance
Tell us the number of air conditioners, their type and your address; we'll give you a day and a quote for maintenance.
When should air conditioner maintenance be done?
Filter cleaning at home is every few weeks, depending on how heavily the unit is used; service maintenance is usually once a year, recommended before the summer season starts. Because service demand rises a lot in summer, planning maintenance in spring both reduces waiting and gets your air conditioner ready for the season. Details: how often should air conditioner maintenance be done.
What do air conditioner maintenance prices depend on?
The number and type of units (split, floor-standing, cassette, VRF), how dirty the unit is, the location of the outdoor unit and extra jobs (such as refrigerant charging or drain pump replacement) determine the price. We don't quote figures; we prepare a written quote based on the unit information. We explain how much extra energy a neglected air conditioner can use in our energy consumption of a neglected air conditioner article.
Frequently asked questions
How is air conditioner maintenance done?
At home, the filters are removed, washed and dried. In service, the indoor unit coil and fan are cleaned, the drain is cleared, the outdoor unit coil is cleaned, and refrigerant pressure and electrical measurements are taken.
How often should the air conditioner filter be cleaned?
Every few weeks, depending on how heavily it is used. More often in dusty environments and during heavy summer use.
Can air conditioner cleaning spray be used?
Only where the manufacturer allows it and according to the instructions. Getting liquid onto the electronic board or inside the indoor unit can cause a fault.
How many times a year should an air conditioner be serviced?
For home and office air conditioners, one service maintenance a year is usually enough; for heavily used commercial spaces, more frequent maintenance is recommended.
