About Ankara VRF / VRV Air Conditioning Maintenance and Breakdown Service
In recent years VRF systems have become widespread in Ankara's new office buildings, plazas, hotels, schools and private institutions, and in high-end residential projects. Office buildings along Eskişehir Road, Çukurambar, Söğütözü and the Ümitköy–Çayyolu axis, and new projects in Yenimahalle and Etimesgut, are places where these systems are common. Because dozens of indoor units are connected to one outdoor unit group, a single fault can affect multiple floors or sections.
In Ankara many VRF systems are also run in heat pump mode in winter. When the outdoor temperature drops below zero, frost forms on the outdoor unit coil and the system enters a defrost cycle. If the drainage of the water produced during defrost is blocked or snow accumulates at the base of the unit, permanent ice can form at the bottom of the coil. That is why, before winter, the height of the outdoor unit above ground, snow accumulation risk, drainage and heater bands should be checked.
In summer the problem is mostly about dirt. Rooftop outdoor units get dirty from dust and pollen, capacity drops and high-pressure warnings increase. For indoor units, filter and drain pan cleaning matters both for air quality and for water-dripping complaints. During maintenance the fault history is read through the system's service software or controller, and sensor values and refrigerant pressures are measured.
How indoor units are used in VRF systems also determines maintenance needs. In rooms with different load profiles, such as meeting rooms, server rooms or kitchens, some indoor units run much more than others and need more frequent filter cleaning. Marking these units separately in the maintenance plan allows us to intervene before complaints arrive.

In a breakdown we first read the system's error code and fault history and determine whether the problem is in the outdoor unit, indoor unit, communication line or refrigerant side. In periodic maintenance for buildings with many indoor units, we plan the work floor by floor and choose the hours that disturb users least. Frequently asked questions
The VRF system falls short of heating in winter. What could be the cause?
The most common causes are frost on the outdoor coil, drainage problems, low refrigerant or a sensor fault. Reduced capacity at very low outdoor temperatures is normal; however, continuous shortfall needs to be checked.
Is the whole building left without air conditioning during VRF maintenance?
Usually not. Indoor unit maintenance is done section by section; if outdoor unit intervention is needed, it is planned for a short period with advance notice.
