Preliminary calculation: This tool is for quick sizing and information. In real projects, load calculation, selection and commissioning require engineering calculations and a site survey. Results are approximate values.
Formulas
ṁ_water [kg/h] = ṁ_air [kg/h] × (w₂ − w₁)P_steam [kW] ≈ ṁ_water × (2676 − 4.186·T_water) / 3600In steam (isothermal) humidifiers the temperature stays roughly constant, but energy consumption is high. In adiabatic (evaporative) systems the water evaporates using the sensible heat of the air; the air cools and energy consumption is low. Water quality and regular cleaning are required for hygiene.
- Steam systems are preferred in sensitive environments (data centers, laboratories)
- Scale directly affects the service life of the steam cylinder
- Distance and saturation control are needed to prevent condensation inside the duct
Frequently asked questions
Steam or adiabatic?
Steam is preferred where temperature must be maintained; adiabatic is preferred in hot, dry environments to save energy.
How is the humidity requirement found?
The air mass flow is multiplied by the difference between the target and current humidity ratio.
Why are the results different for the two systems?
A steam system uses energy to generate steam; in an adiabatic system the heat of evaporation is taken from the air itself, so the temperature drops.
