Result
Preliminary calculation: This tool is for quick sizing and information. In real projects, load calculation, selection and commissioning require engineering calculations and a site survey. Results are approximate values.
Calculation method
p_v = RH × p_sat(T), w = 0.622 × p_v / (P − p_v)h = 1.006·T + w·(2501 + 1.86·T) [kJ/kg dry air]The dew point is the temperature at which air starts to condense. If the cooling coil surface is below this temperature, moisture is removed from the air. The wet bulb temperature is important in evaporative cooling and cooling tower calculations.
Areas of use
- Humidity control in precision air conditioning and data centers
- Coil and humidifier selection in air handling units
- Condensation and mold risk analysis
- Cooling tower approach temperature
To find the load from the difference between inlet and outlet conditions, use the air heat load tool.
Frequently asked questions
What is the dew point?
It is the temperature at which moisture in the air starts to condense; it equals the dry bulb temperature when relative humidity is 100%.
Are relative humidity and humidity ratio the same?
No. Relative humidity gives the ratio to saturation, while humidity ratio gives the grams of water per 1 kg of dry air.
Why is altitude an input?
Atmospheric pressure drops with altitude, which changes the humidity ratio at the same temperature and humidity.
