Result
Preliminary calculation: This tool is for quick sizing and information. In real projects, load calculation, selection and commissioning require engineering calculations and a site survey. Results are approximate values.
Components of the calculation
Q_transmission = U × A × ΔTQ_air ≈ 0.335 × V × N / 24 × ΔT × (1 + latent share)Q_product = m × cp × ΔT_product × 1000 / (time × 3600)Transmission is determined by panel thickness and U value. Air change load grows with door opening frequency. The product load comes from the material that enters the room each day and must be cooled. The total load is divided by the compressor's realistic run time instead of 24 hours to convert it to capacity.
- In freezer rooms, product and defrost loads are significantly different
- ΔT (room - evaporation) is a factor in evaporator selection
- A door curtain and a fast-acting door reduce air change
Frequently asked questions
How many kW of cooling does a cold room need?
It depends on room size, insulation, product quantity and outdoor temperature, so it is calculated with a formula and the right inputs. The tool gives a preliminary value.
Why do we divide by 18 hours instead of 24?
The compressor does not run continuously all day; the run time is shortened for defrost and thermostat cycles, so the required capacity increases.
Can it be used for a freezer room?
This tool is for cold rooms (chillers). Freezer rooms have different product and defrost loads, so a detailed calculation is required.
