VRF air conditioner maintenance step by step
01Error history and operating data
Error logs are read with the central controller or a service tool; the outdoor unit's operating data (pressures, temperatures, compressor frequency) is recorded. For the meaning of error codes, see our VRF error codes article.
02Outdoor unit
The condenser coil is cleaned, fan motors and blades are checked, electrical connections are tightened and compressor currents are measured. A dirty coil is the most common cause of high pressure errors in summer.
03Refrigerant circuit
Suction and discharge pressures are measured, and service valves and connection points are checked for leaks. If a leak is suspected, the system is divided into zones and searched; details: how to find a VRF refrigerant leak.
04Indoor units
Filters are cleaned or replaced, the coil and fan wheel are cleaned, the drain pan and line are opened and tested, and on cassette units with a drain pump, pump operation is checked.
05Communication and control

06Report

What is refrigerant recovery in a VRF air conditioner?
Refrigerant recovery (pump down) is drawing the refrigerant into the outdoor unit when work is to be done on the outdoor unit or the piping. In VRF systems this should be done according to the manufacturer's service procedure, taking the system's refrigerant amount into account; wrong application can damage the compressor. It is therefore a job for the technical team.
What does VRF air conditioner maintenance pricing depend on?
The maintenance fee is determined by the outdoor unit modules and the number of indoor units, the indoor unit types (cassette and concealed ceiling types need more labor), access to the units, the scope of maintenance and the city.
