Factors that set the chiller price
- Capacity: the required cooling power is determined by the heat load calculation; an oversized chiller is both expensive and runs inefficiently. Preliminary calculation: chiller capacity calculator.
- Air- or water-cooled: a water-cooled chiller also requires a cooling tower, condenser pump and water treatment.
- Compressor type: scroll, screw or centrifugal; capacity range and part-load efficiency differ.
- Efficiency: units with high seasonal efficiency have a higher initial cost and lower operating cost. See COP and EER.
- Heat pump capability: models that can produce hot water in winter.
- Sound level: a low-noise version may be needed for installations near residences.
- Additional equipment: hydronic kit, integrated pump, buffer tank, free cooling, remote monitoring.
We deliberately do not give figures in this article: prices vary greatly with the number and type of units, access and city, and written figures quickly go out of date. If you send us your list of units, we prepare a written, itemized quote.
Chiller selection and written quote
Tell us the building type, area or heat load; we will prepare a quote with suitable chiller options.
What is included in the total investment?
- Pump set, expansion tank, buffer tank
- Piping, valves, insulation
- Electrical supply and panel
- Crane and transport, foundation and vibration isolation
- Commissioning and training
Should you buy a used chiller?
A used chiller can lower the initial cost, but compressor hours, refrigerant type, heat exchanger condition and spare parts availability must be checked. We recommend a measured appraisal before purchase; with our site survey and fault diagnosis service we can carry out this assessment.
Chiller or VRF?
Building size, fresh air requirement and the way it is operated determine the system choice; details are in our article VRF or chiller. At the design stage, with our engineering consulting service we can compare the options in writing.
Frequently asked questions
Why do chiller prices differ so much?
Capacity, air- or water-cooled type, compressor, efficiency, sound level, additional equipment and brand set the price; installation and piping also affect the total cost significantly.
Is the price of a cooling unit the same as a chiller price?
Yes, "soğutma grubu" is the Turkish name for a chiller; the same factors set the price.
Does it make sense to buy a used chiller?
It can make sense if compressor hours, refrigerant type, heat exchanger condition and parts availability are checked. We recommend a measured appraisal.
How is chiller capacity determined?
It is determined by the building's heat load calculation. A preliminary estimate can be made with our calculators; the final selection should be made with a project calculation.
